What does Occupational Health mean? In principal, it is a medical speciality, which focuses on the interaction of people's health with their work, that is, the effect of work on people's health and the effect of health on their work.

It is as much related to the effects of the working environment on the health of worker, as it is to the influenece of the workers state of health on his or her ability to perform the tasks for which he or she was employed.

A joint International Labour Organisation / World Health Organisation committee has defined it as "the promotion and maintenance of the highest degreee of physical, mental and social well-being of workers in all occupations."

Occupational Health is therefore important at every stage of the work cycle, from recruitment to retirement.
